Notes

At twenty-eight, on the eve of his wedding, Steve Allgood learned he had a tumour caused by an aggressive form of brain cancer on his brain stem and spinal cord, and that it would likely take his life within months. He and his wife, Jennie, chose to move forward and build a family anyway. As the reality of his diagnosis grew heavier, Steve lost his will to live and began contemplating suicide. In searching for support, he eventually accessed psilocybin mushroom therapy, which offered him a path back toward meaning and emotional stability. Steve's story is a powerful and necessary reminder of why this conversation around healing matters.

This PSA was created in collaboration with TheraPsil, a nonprofit organisation advocating for compassionate access to psilocybin and MDMA-assisted therapy for Canadians facing life-threatening illness. The project also acknowledges the growing public interest in magic mushrooms and their therapeutic potential, grounding the discussion in harm reduction and responsible use.
